The Sound & Silence of FIRST MAN with Damien Chazelle and Justin Hurwitz

Director Damien Chazelle (WHIPLASH) and composer Justin Hurwitz (LA LA LAND) discuss the music and sound design of their new film FIRST MAN. The Academy Award-winning team of director Damien Chazelle and star Ryan Gosling (La La Land) reunites for this biopic on the adventures and life of Neil Armstrong, from his entry into NASA's astronaut program in 1961 to his epoch-making walk on the moon eight years later.

During the 2018 festival I had the immense pleasure of getting to sit down with the director and composer of First Man and La La Land to discuss their creative process, the score of their new film, and the film’s unique approach to the sound design.
